Data
Title: Star Trek: “The Corbomite Maneuver”
Year: 1966
Network: NBC
Episode: the tenth (of twenty-nine) from season one; 50 minutes
Creator: Gene Roddenberry
Director: Joseph Sargent
Writer: Jerry Sohl
Starring: William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, Anthony D. Call
Music: Alexander Courage (theme); Fred Steiner
I saw it: on video and TV several times, most recently a few days ago (have on DVD)
Synopsis: a technologically superior alien is kind of a dick
My reaction
Concept: I'm pretty sure this episode is the basis for the Mooninites from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Story: The ending is lame, but it's a classic science fiction kind of ending.
Characters: The attempt to pad things out with the development of a one-off, uninteresting guest character is an unnecessary distraction (although there is some nice interaction between Kirk and McCoy concerning the same subplot). The antagonist, meanwhile, is a freaking Mooninite.

Subjective Rating: 8/10 (Great, ). It's one of the All The Action On The Bridge episodes. That sort of story requires a level of intelligence to the writing that can't help but be engrossing when it works.
