Network: NBC
Episode: the fourth (of twenty-six) from season two; 50 minutes
Creator: Gene Roddenberry
Director: Marc Daniels
Writer: Jerome Bixby

I saw it: on video and TV several times, most recently yesterday (have on DVD)
Synopsis: four of the crew are transported into a parallel, evil universe

My reaction
Concept:3/4 (Good) It might not make a lot of sense, but at least it has dramatic potential.
Story:2/4 (Indifferent) A frustrating lot of the plot involves sneaking around, as if the four heroes weren't the heads of their respective departments. Also, it's completely ridiculous.
Characters:3/4 (Good)
Dialog:3/4 (Good)
Pacing:3/4 (Good)
Cinematography:2/4 (Indifferent)
Special effects/design:4/4 (Great)
Acting:2/4 (Indifferent)
Music:4/4 (Great)
Subjective Rating: 7/10 (Good, 3/4 (Good)). It's iconic, but I'm not sure it really deserves to be. It's a different universe, with a completely different human society, and everyone has different personalities, and yet they're all the same people, in the same place at the same time. What is this parallel universe even supposed to be? Not only is nothing answered, I don't think the writer even realized there were questions. But on the positive side: Evil Spock! Pop culture's obsession with the goatee aside, it really is an interesting look at the character, and at reason and violence in general.
Objective Rating (Average):2.9/4 (Good)
