No original ideas were allowed anywhere near this movie. And look how many writers there are! I think that's because, the worse a script is, the more people that are "brought on board" to "fine tune" it.Characters:
They would be a nice enough group of people to be eaten by a deadly space monster, except that those that have any development (and by any development, I mean enough that you're able to tell them apart from other characters) get it by explaining their back stories to each other.Dialog:

). Not scary. It's creepy - overflowing with creepy - but never scary. There's no suspense, probably because it's painfully predictable, but also the editing and score don't help any. The action scenes are tedious and confused. Ten straight minutes of running through corridors? Not only is that boring, but it makes about as much sense as branding the movie "Alien Cubed."Objective Rating (Average):
I seem to be one of the few people who liked this movie. I disagree with you on the creature affects. I thought the alien looked great. I liked Fincher's dark tone and I really liked the ending.
ReplyDeleteNow the fourth movie, that one I just couldn't get on board with.
As to the creature effects, I'm someone who thinks Star Trek TOS is an example of great special effects and design, so I have to admit that maybe my opinions on that subject are a bit unorthodox. But ignoring my quirks of taste (as much as I can), I can't see a way of comparing the creatures in Aliens with Alien 3 and not seeing 3 as a huge step backwards.
