Argo
Argo, 2012. A fake movie production is used as a cover to extract Americans from Iran.
Directed by & starring Ben Affleck. Written by Chris Terrio, based on writings by Tony Mendez & Joshuah Bearman.
Concept: 3/4 (Good)
Story: 1/4 (Bad). For a scenario this novel, it's surprising how they managed to force it into a perfectly-predictable, paint-by-number movie script.
Characters: 1/4 (Bad)
Dialog: 3/4 (Good)
Pacing: 4/4 (Great)
Cinematography: 3/4 (Good)
Special effects/design: 3/4 (Good)
Acting: 3/4 (Good)
Music: 3/4 (Good)
Subjective Rating: 7/10 (Good, 3/4). Its strong point, the suspense that everyone seems to love about it, didn't work for me. Nothing unexpected ever happens, and there's no attempt to make you care about the characters. It's a good movie, but I don't feel it does anything that a documentary wouldn't have done better.
Objective Rating (Average): 2.7/4 (Good)
