My reaction
Synopsis: a smart-ass in boot camp, then Vietnam
How I saw it: on video a couple times, most recently (rented from Netflix) yesterday
Concept: Good.
Story: Indifferent. If it'd had more story, it wouldn't really have worked, but none-the-less there isn't much of a story
Characters: Indifferent.
Dialog: Good.
Pacing: Good.
Cinematography: Great.
Special effects/design: Great.
Acting: Bad. It usually seems good, but a few key scenes are crap.
Music: Great.
Subjective Rating: 7/10 (Good).
Objective Rating: 2.9/4 (Good).

What scenes were crap?I thought the acting in this film was outstanding.Especially comparing it to platoon and casualties of war.Obviously modine certainly wasn't as good as deniro or martin sheen,in their nam flicks. But,he was far FAR more convincing than charlie sheen and michael j fox in their nam flicks.D'onfrio went over the top in the last five minutes of the first act. But,it has a nightmare quality, mainly because,it WAS a nightmare, joker's.That was creepier than anything ive seen in some of the best horror films.
ReplyDeleteI don't know. It's been over a year and a half since I watched it now, and I don't really remember things clearly. But it's probably that over-the-top five minutes that I meant.
ReplyDeleteMichael J. Fox did a Nam flick? That sounds like a combination doomed to failure...
